According to Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), work on certification of An-158 (main modification of An-148-100) has been finished. Annex to the type certificate will be handed to Antonov design bureau on February 28th in Kiev.

An-158 is a regional jet, the modification of An-148. By virtue of increased passenger capacity the aircraft's operational characteristics have increased by 15-18%. Maximum number of passengers in one-class configuration is 99 and 86 (12+74) in case of two-class configuration.

An-158 will complement the base aircraft of the family An-148-100 which is already in operation. An-158 has a very high degree of unification with An-148: common cockpit, systems, units, airframe elements, etc. Thus the costs on crew training and aircraft maintenance are moderate, which is profitable for the operating organizations. An-158 will be manufactured by the Kiev aircraft factory "Aviant".

It is possible that An-158 will serve as a basic model for military transport and cargo aircraft An-178. The draft design of this machine is being created at the moment. It will have an increased fuselage diameter and a tail ramp. The presentation of An-178 project has received favorable comments from the Russian and Indian military authorities, who want to acquire several hundreds of ramp aircrafts with the weight-capacity of 15-20 tons. In addition, the positive comments come from purely civil organizations.
