Ulyanovsk to make composites

Ulyanovsk governor Sergey Morozov has announced the project of launching the manufacture of the aviation composites in his city. This plan has been reviewed at the region’s investment council and inked on February 15 in Moscow between Ulyanovsk region government, AeroComposite company and United Aircraft Corp.

According to Anatoliy Gaydansky, the President of AeroComposite, the project cost has been estimated around USD 250 million. AeroComposite company (the recently established UAC daughter composite producer) is to become the projects major contractor.

AeroComposite manufacture in Ulyanovsk should be built on the site of Aviastar-SP aviation plant (which now makes Tu-204 aircraft and overhauls An-124). It is projected to create around 600 jobs and give the total output in 2014 while the manufacture split into two plants: one producing the composites and the second doing their assembly on the wing, tail and center wing.

Sukhoi Superjet and MC-21 are expected to become the first recipients of the AeroComposite’s production.
