Reconstruction of highway connecting Domodedovo airport with Moscow has been started in 2011. It will allow Domodedovo airport to become more accessible for automobilists, the airport’s press-service reports. AEX.ru
The intensity of traffic on some segments of the road during days with peak loads significantly exceeds the calculate norm of 14 thousand of cars per day. The increase of traffic is connected with the dynamics of the airport – the passenger traffic has increased from 2,8 million in 2000 to 22,3 million in 2010.
The top-priority measures referring to problem parts will be implemented with the support of the Ministry of Transport in the next 3 years, in particular, the U-turn on the 1st kilometer of Kashirskoe shosse (highway) will be organized in 2011 and the traffic light near Razvilka settlement will be eliminated, since it is troubling access to Moscow.
In addition, it is planned to build four overground crosswalks in 2012 that will increase the driving speed on the highway and in 2013-2014 – a multi-level road interchange near the airport entry will be constructed, it will eliminate the jams, which form regularly on this section of the road. In accordance with the initiative of Moscow Domodedovo airport and instruction of Igor Levitin, declared at the meeting held on March 26th 2011, the possibility of reconstruction of multi-level road interchange near the exit in the direction of Molokovo settlement for provision of driving without traffic lights and elimination of traffic jams is also considered.
It will be hard to withstand the growth of load connected with the planned increase of passenger traffic and sport events like Sochi-2014 Olympics and Soccer World Cup – 2018 without increase of highway’s capacity. According to some forecasts, about 1.4 million of foreign tourists will visit Russia during the Cup and it will increase the passenger traffic of Domodedovo by 360 000 passengers in June 2018. Taking into account that 75% of passengers are using autos for transfer to Moscow, the additional load on the highway will be around 270 thousand people.
That is why, after completion of the first stage in 2014, the second stage must be started, which includes reconstruction of 5 road interchanges for achieving the driving speed of 110 km/h near the entry to the airport. It is also assumed to build a road connecting with M-4 “Don” highway, which will provide fast access to the airport from the south of Moscow Region. It is also planned to increase the number of lanes from 4 to 8 at the section from Vostryakovo to the airport, and from 4 to 6 – on the section from separation of Kashirskoe shosse (highway) to road interchange at Vostryakovo.
