Russia offered EU to call off visas for the passengers of regular flights

Deputies of Russian State Duma have submitted an offer to the European Parliament regarding mitigation of visa regime between Russia and EU, Kommersant reports. The offer is about calling off visas for Russian citizens arriving by regular flights in the countries of Schengen zone. The authors hope that Europeans will answer them in November.

One of the idea’s authors, deputy Pavel Tarakanov, who has developed it in cooperation with Youth Public Chamber of RF, has declared the fact that this initiative has been presented to the deputies of European Parliament. Deputies of RF State Duma had a meeting with a group of young deputies of European Parliament last week.

According to Tarakanov, his initiative is simple: Russians will be able to get to Europe having only the return-ticket and international passport. "The Europeans worry of their safety. They are not sure will the foreigners bring arms of drugs in the country,— he explained. — But Europeans have seen our demanding inspections at the airports. It is more strict than in  any European airport". The deputy also rejects the possibility that this initiative will stimulate illegal immigration from Russia to Europe: "All the people, who wanted to leave, have already done it in 90s ".

Youth Public Chamber has prepared the special resolution for promotion of this idea in Brussels and offered guests from European Parliament to sign it immediately. The European deputies have refused. As explained by the president of European youth forum, Peter Matyashik, the guests have no idea about the existence of the document. The denial of the Europeans has not surprised the hosts. At least, Pavel Tarakanov said that another meeting will be held in Brussels in November and the Russian party expects to get a response to its initiative from the Europeans there.
