The Sakhalin-based carrier transported 294 thousand passengers in 2010, which is 26.8% above the figure for previous year.
In the whole of 2010 SAT performed 6,665 flights lasting 11,063 hours (+13.2% to 2009). This figure is made up by 1,304 international (+31% to 2009) and 5,361 domestic flights (+9%), the latter including 2,130 commuter services between destinations within the region of basing. Past year the passenger traffic rose by 26.6%, to 277,971,740 passenger kilometers (pkm), and the cargo traffic by 28.2%, to 29,714,360 tonne kilometers (tkm). The grand total for freight came to 3,203 tons, up by 34.6%.
Partially, the rise came from opening of new services from Khabarovsk and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, including those to Japan and China. Besides, traditional services generated more traffic, such as those linking Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk with Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and Blagoveshensk. The rise was 21%, 48% and 43% respectively, by passenger numbers. Amount of freight carried also went up, largely due to commencement of regular cargo services to the Republic of Korea (RoK).
The carrier continues efforts on renovation of its fleet and expansion of route network. This year new services are going to be open, including those linking Khabarovsk with Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and Shakhtersk, and Yuzhno-Sakahlinsk with Tokyo and Beijing.
Operations started recently on the Bombardier Dash 8-300 turboprop airliner have allowed improvements in economics of operations and passenger comfort on short routes. Employing this aircraft type made it possible to increase passenger numbers on commuter services by 29%.
