The Russian rotorcraft operator Vertical-T is negotiating on expansion of its helicopter operations in Afghanistan.
For that purpose Vertical-T leaders participating in the recent meeting between Russian and Afghan business circles arranged by the Trade Chamber of the Russian Federation and the president of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai. Further development of cooperation between Russia and Afghanistan was the main topic on the agenda of the meeting. The Afghan side listed transport as one of the most attractive industries for foreign investment. In its turn, the Russian site expressed its interest in restoration and reconstruction of infrastructural object erected in Afghanistan by the Soviet Union.
Vertical-T believes it can expand its activities in Afghanistan, taking advantage of the eight-year experience of working in this country. On many occasions the Russian rotorcraft operator used its helicopters in Afghanistan. The helicopters assisted construction works and repair of roads all over the country.
In October 2010 Vertical-T and the USAID, the US agency for international development, signed agreement. Under it, the company’s Mil Mi-8MTV-1 and Mi-8T helicopters have been participating in the works on the electrical power station in Kijaki.
Founded in March 1992, Vertical-T has grown into one of Russia’s largest commercial operators of rotorcraft. It operates inside Russia and in foreign countries. The company’s fleet is made up of Mil helicopters, models Mi-8P, Mi-8T, Mi-MTV, Mi-8AMT and Mi-26.
