Sukhoi, Russia’s largest exporter of tactical aircraft, delivered 240 warplanes in 2000 – 2004 timeframe and added 197 more in the period of 2005 – 2009.
Sukhoi took the second place among world’s leading fighter exporters after Lockheed Martin of United States with 583 sales, while Chengdu of China came third with 90 sales.
The share of Sukhoi fighters in the grand total of all export sales of such equipment was 29.5% in 2005 – 2009, dropping from 35.2% in the first half-decade of this century.
Although China has recently disappeared from the list of buyers after large acquisitions of Su-27SK/UB interceptors and Su-30MKK/MK2 multirole fighters, Sukhoi has managed to sell more fighters to other customers worldwide. Large contracts were signed and fulfilled with Malaysia, Indonesia, Algeria, Venezuela and Vietnam.
This century India emerged as the largest buyer with large orders for Su-30MKI twin seat heavy weight multirole fighters. That in the conditions of heavy competition with world’s leading manufacturers whom New Delhi also invited to bid.
