In the period from 23 December 2010 to 10 January 2011 inclusive Moscow Sheremetуevo served 882,059 passengers, according to the airport’s press service.

This number is 13.2% higher than that for the same period one year ago. A total of 9,051 domestic and international flights were carried out, 15% more than previously. The charter traffic rose by 8.7%, with over 50 thousand passengers served on holiday charter services.

Sheremetуevo registered a record on 9 January by the number of passengers served that day: 63,600 people traveling on 612 inbound and outbound flights, 25% more than same day in 2010. The record was possible due to the massive return flights carrying people back home after they enjoyed their New Year holidays many miles away from their points of residence. To bring the hordes of people to the Moscow city, Aeroexpress train company made decision to increase the number of coaches on a train from eight normally up to ten. Aeroexpress runs trains services connecting Sheremetуevo airport with Belorusski railway terminal.
