Aeroflot says its operations have completely recovered after the massive delays with departing flights in Moscow Sheremetуevo airport due to abnormal weather conditions at the end of December.
Starting on 30 December, Aeroflot has been operating “in full accordance with the timetable”. During the day of 9 January Aeroflot performed 322 flights from Sheremetуevo , thereby setting a daily traffic record. Sheremetivo also claims it is working in accordance with the central timetable.
Aeroflot had 640 flight departures in the period of 25 to 29 December while 212 flights were cancelled and 358 delayed. A total of 80 thousand passengers were delivered to their final destinations.
The number of delayed flight passengers peaked at six thousand, they had to wait for boarding calls in Sheremetуevo airport. Hot food and drinks, as well as hygiene items were distributes to these passengers, the airline and airport press services insist.
Previously Aeroflot acknowledged that the delays and cancellations were due to a temporary shortage of anti-icing substance in its Sheremetуevo stocks. After urgent measures were taken, the anti-icing stocks have become large enough to support flight operations until late March 2011, the airline says.
