Despite big snowfalls and bad weather conditions, Moscow Sheremetyevo airport continues to function normally, serving all scheduled and charters flights and also taking diverted airplanes.
During the day of 26 December a total of 12 airplanes bounded for Moscow Domodedovo and Vnukovo airports were diverted to Sheremetyevo and landed here.
The airport press service briefed the media on large stocks of anti-ice substances. Those include 65 tons of special liquids and 70 tons of dry anti-ice substances. These are applied when necessary to keep runways, taxi ways and apron free of ice. Equipment and personnel are said to be adequate to keep the airport operational in this sort of weather. A total of 40 special vehicles, including bulldozers and snow/ice cleaning vehicles on wheeled chassis, are in the airport inventory.
Food and drinks, including bottled water and hot drinks, are served to passengers of delayed flights, and hotel rooms are offered in the case of long delays.
