UAC will develop a widebody passenger airliner

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) intends to complete design of the next generation widebody jetliner by 2020, according to UAC president Aleksey Fedorov.

He touched on this theme when speaking to his Indian colleagues during the Indo-Russian forum on trade and investments that opened this week in New Delhi. “We intend to complete design of the next generation widedoby aircraft by 2020, and this aircraft will be another modern Russian jetliner in UAC product line”, Fedorov was quoted as saying.

Fedorov further said that UAC “is not in a hurry” with this project. Today, the corporation is focusing on the Sukhoi Superjet 100, Antonov 148 and Irkut MS-21 projects. These three projects are sufficient for Russia in her attempt to occupy a niche in the global market. They are also sufficient for the local industry to develop new technologies and improve its technical base. When these are in place, “when we will be able to commence work on the new Russian widebody jetliner”, Fedorov said.
