Sheremetievo served nearly 18 million passengers this year

The Moscow Sheremetievo International airport served 17 million 930 thousand passengers in January – November 2010, which is 32% above the respective figure previous year.

In the first eleven months of this year the passenger flow on the international routes rose by 24,8%, up to 11 million 405 thousand passengers. At the same time, domestic air travel increased more than that: by staggering 46%, up to 6 million 525 thousand people. The volume of cargo that went through the airport was 20.2% larger than previous year, at 113.5 thousand tons.

Past month Sheremetievo served one million 447 thousand passengers, 28% more than in November 2009. International sector rose by 23%, to 920 thousand people, and domestic by 38%, to 557 thousands. The biggest rise was demonstrated by Aerosvit, Cyprus Airways, Transaero, Estonian Air and Delta Airlines. Top three airlines operating out of Sheremetievo are Aeroflot – Russian Airlines, Nord Wind and Transaero.

According to ACI EUROPE rating, Moscow Sheremetievo came first among large European airport by the traffic rise in October this year. Meantime, a big expansion plan is being put together. It calls for increase in the airport capacity to 64 million passengers and 1 million tons of cargo by 2030. Today, the airport is 100% owned by the Russian government.

It may be expected that by the end of the year Sheremetievo will come close to registering yearly traffic at 20million after December figures are added up.
