Sukhoi sees market for 800 Superjets

Russian Aviaton » Sunday November 7, 2010 17:46 MSK

Head of Sukhoi company Mikhail Pogosyan has confirmed earlier made estimation of the market for the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) hundred-seat passenger jet at “over 800” units in the next twenty years.

This came despite revised specification to the SSJ100 two main versions, the SSJ100 95B “basic” and SSJ100 95LR “long range” made public earlier this fall, when the company admitted overweight by some three tons.

Sukhoi, however, claims that, despite the increase in structural weight, the airplanes will anyway exceeds nearest competitor, the Embraer E-190, in operational performance.

The SSJ100’s advantage is now measured by one-digit (6% lower DOC), not two (10-15%) as it was when the program started ten years ago. Pogosyan said the number of orders exceeds 130 and rising. Meantime, order book for Russian combat jets exceeds 300 units.

“These orders combined give the company a strong footing and assurance in the future”, Pogosyan concluded.
