Ceremony of naming of the Sheremetyevo International Airport after Alexander S. Pushkin took place

On June 5, 2019, official events dedicated to the assignment of the name of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin to the airport took place at Sheremetyevo International Airport. It is noteworthy that the events took place on the eve of the 220th anniversary of the poet’s birth.

Solemn events with the participation of the General Director of JSC SIA M.M. Vasilenko, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation V.R. Medinsky, co-chairman of the Russian Historical Society A.O. Chubaryan, Secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation V.A. Fadeev and Director of the A.S. Pushkin’s State Museum E.A. Bogatyryov began with the opening of A.S. Pushkin’s sculpture in Terminal E.

Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation V.R. Medinsky, giving a symbolic start to events dedicated to A.S. Pushkin at Sheremetyevo, especially noted: “I am glad to say this: welcome to Sheremetyevo Alexander S. Pushkin International Airport! This is a worthy conclusion of the competition, which has lasted for several months, of the competition, when we chose the names of the great historical cultural figures for the airports of Russia. Today we can say that this project has justified itself as modern and timely”.

In turn, the General Director of JSC SIA M.M. Vasilenko stressed:“Assigning the name of a great poet and citizen to the airport by popular vote is not only the highest honor to become involved in our national and rich cultural heritage. It is also a special responsibility not to dwell for a moment in our development, to strive always to be “the first among equals”, to impose the most stringent requirements on the results of our work, to be true patriots of our country”.

Valery Fadeev, Secretary of the Public Chamber of Russia, recalled that the Public Chamber was the organizer of the “Great Names of Russia” competition, in which 6.2 million people, Russian citizens and compatriots living abroad, took part. “The task of the project is to help to remember the great names. This is an element of memory of our great compatriots,” - he said.

The author of the sculpture of the poet was the People’s Artist of Russia, a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts Alexander Nikolaevich Burganov. The image of A.S. Pushkin occupies a special place in the works of A.N. Burganov, who is the author of a number of monuments to the poet. Among them are the “Monument to Alexander Pushkin and Natalia Goncharova” on the Old Arbat in Moscow and the “Russian poet Alexander Pushkin” in Washington.

A.S. Pushkin is depicted in full growth, reciting a poem. The link connecting the Pushkin’s era with modernity is the QR code on the back of the book, which the poet holds in his hand. Sheremetyevo passengers can download works from the artistic heritage of A.S. Pushkin in audio format.

Thanks to the unique projects aimed at popularizing the heritage of the Russian classic, guests of Sheremetyevo Airport will have the opportunity to recall A.S. Pushkin’s works.

The image of the great Russian poet, plots and characters of his remarkable works formed the basis of the multimedia concept "Literary Lounge". Sheremetyevo Airport together with our partner * created the digital space of classic literature, free and accessible to all categories of passengers.

In the business lounges, lounges for passengers with limited mobility, and rooms for mothers and children, mini-libraries of works by A.S. Pushkin in several languages (English, French, Spanish, German).

Thanks to modern technological means and creative formats, the image, milestones from the biography and works of the poet found a worthy embodiment at the Sheremetyevo airport. The special corporate style has been developed to implement the actual image tasks.

The assigning of the name of A.S. Pushkin to the airport has received a diverse embodiment on the media infrastructure:

· Company signs on entrance groups of passenger terminals;

· Welcome banners at airport terminals;

· Video content with characters from works and tales of A.S. Pushkin on media systems inside the terminals;

· A special section on the site and in the mobile application;

· Boarding passes.

Restaurants, cafes and other enterprises associated with the service area at the airport have joined the “A.S. Pushkin Friends Club”. "Pushkin in Sheremetyevo" and placed thematic images on various carriers using their own communication formats with passengers and customers.

State Museum A.S. Pushkin presented the public exhibition "Moscow and Pushkin." The exposition includes 16 reproductions of historical views of Moscow of the Pushkin era, complemented by the memoirs of contemporaries and excerpts from the works of the poet. Passengers and guests of the airport are given the opportunity to look at the capital through the eyes of the poet.
