The United States and Russia are developing joint production in the city of Kimry
Saturday November 11, 2017 15:23 MSK / Mikhail Vakhneev
October 17, 2017 in the city of Kimry in the Tver region at the plant of JSC Hamilton Standard Science, the leading Russian manufacturer of heat exchangers for air conditioning systems for civil aircraft, the solemn opening ceremony of the second stage of the production complex of the enterprise took place. CJSC Hamilton Standard ¬ Science is one of the world centres for the production of air heat exchangers, and the second stage output at the designed capacity in 2019 will strengthen the company's position in the world market.

CJSC Hamilton Standard-Nauka is a joint venture between PAO NGO Nauka and UTC Aerospace Systems (a division of United Technologies, the USA). It was established in 1994 in Moscow and specialises in the development and manufacture of heat exchangers for air conditioning systems for civil aircraft. Equipment manufactured by Hamilton Standard-Nauka CJSC is operated on the aircrafts of many aircraft building companies of the world: Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Bombardier, Tupolev, Ilyushin and Beriev.

The solemn ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Tver region Igor Rudenya, the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Viktor Yevtukhov, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Andrey Yepishin, the President of the Electric Systems division of United Technologic Aerospace Systems Timothy White, the General Director of the NGO "Nauka" Evgeny Merkulov, the President of UTC in Russia Elena Aleksandrova, General Director of Hamilton Standard-Nauka CJSC Roman Chichelov, as well as other representatives of the participating companies, guests and media representatives.

The large-scale investment project of JSC Hamilton Standard Science, which began in 2011 with the construction of the first stage of the production complex in the city of Kimry, is aimed at organising the production and supply for export of most of the enterprise's products. It is carried out with the active support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the administration of the Tver region and the city of Kimry and has great socio-economic importance for the region. This investment project is a contender for the conclusion of the first in the aviation industry of Russia special investment contract (SPIC).

«Today we committed ourselves to expand the enterprise and increase production volumes. Our task is to create the most competitive enterprise for the production of air heat exchangers in the world, which will allow us to expand the development of relationships with manufacturers of both foreign aircraft and Russian aircraft manufacturers,» - said Timothy White, president of the Electric Systems division of United Technologic Aerospace Systems.

«When the implementation of this project began, the site in Kimry won not only the skills of the staff, but also because the regional administration took an active part in the development of the project. We are systematically developing, and I think that the second stage of production is not the end. We plan to expand not only the production volumes, but also the product range. In addition, over time, it is planned to create and develop in the after-sales service direction of the produced units,» - said Yevgeny Merkulov, general director of the NGO" Nauka ".

The production complex was designed and built to meet the requirements of the international standard for energy efficiency (LEED), equipped with modern equipment and uses advanced methods of lean Lean manufacturing. Additional production facilities will allow the world's largest aircraft heat exchangers of unique design to be produced, which are already operated by Boeing aircraft of the 767, 777, 787 families and will be operated in the future on 777X aircraft. In addition, the new line, as well as the first, will be used for the production of heat exchangers for the most capacious, at the moment, passenger aircraft Airbus A380.

The output of heat exchangers is a wide range of products. For example, only for a Boeing 787 aircraft, a set of heat exchangers for various systems is 20 products and approximately 6-7 types of heat exchangers for the air conditioning system, cooling systems of units and units. At the moment, the company performs the entire cycle of work on the production of air heat exchangers, starting from obtaining materials for blanks and ending with the shipment of finished products. The enterprise produces about 550 products per month. In 2018, after full commissioning of the second stage, it is planned to increase output by 25%.

Basically, in the production of heat exchangers, materials of foreign production are used. The only products of Russian suppliers used in the manufacture of aggregates are aluminium plates. According to the representatives of the enterprise, such a situation arose because of the low level of consumption of high-tech materials in Russia, where aluminium smelters practically do not produce materials for the aircraft industry. At the same time, the production of aluminium for the food and construction industries in our country is at a high level. The break in requirements between industries is serious: it is the purity of the alloy and the surface roughness, and many other parameters.

The company noted that today it is very difficult to attract domestic aluminium producers with products for the aerospace industry. However, work in this direction continues. For "Hamilton Standard - Science" this is a strategic direction. According to the company's representatives, it is planned to master the production of aluminium semi-finished products at the enterprises of the holding "Russian Aluminium". Now we are working on an experienced party. After the official opening ceremony, the honorary guests took part in the symbolic drawing up of the heat exchanger matrix.

Now in the Tver division of the enterprise already employs about 250 people. With the expansion of production in the region, an additional 100 new high-tech jobs will appear, and the regional and municipal budgets will receive additional tax revenues. The company's shareholders plan to participate in the tender for the Russian-Chinese wide-body long-haul aircraft, a victory in which may be the start of the next stage of production expansion.

«We have a lot of young employees. We attract them with the opportunity of training, mastering specialties and wages, which is higher than the average for the region. And also various programs of social support. Here the young man, having come to us, can develop and we have examples when the young man came to us on a working specialty, at support of the enterprise has received higher education and has been promoted on engineering specialty, and with introduction of the second turn works as the engineer. We are also working on joint programs with universities,» - said Roman Chichelov, General Director of Hamilton Standard-Nauka CJSC.

«The project demonstrates the great industrial and personnel potential of the Tver region and the whole of Russia in the development of world-class production. The "Hamilton Standard - Science" presents the most advanced and advanced technologies. This project gives an opportunity to develop not only the enterprise, but also the city of Kimry, Tver region. Demonstrates how a private enterprise can work in the format of international integration. Here, qualified workplaces are created, and a high level of corporate culture is provided,» - said Igor Rudenya, Governor of the Tver Region.

«On the territory of the region, a modern technology enterprise with high labor productivity supplies the leading companies of the world with the creation. I would like to see the chain of our aircraft manufacturers built into the products of this enterprise. I am confident that after the conclusion of a special investment contract, it will be so. This contract gives good preferences and provides an opportunity for a simplified procedure to equate this product with the products of a Russian company. This is important for obtaining support, and for participating in competitive procedures. And our aircraft, including our newest one, the MC-21, will also become a consumer of products manufactured at this enterprise,» - said Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Viktor Yevtukhov.
