MC-21 - the most "wide-body" narrow-body aircraft

The premiere of MC-21-300 was the key event of MAKS-2019. Irkut Corporation presented all three testing models at the airshow. The aircraft is in the most competitive market. The MC-21-300 aircraft is the basic version with a capacity of up to 211 passengers and a flight range of up to 6,000 km. Irkut Corporation claims that the catalog price of a Russian aircraft will be 20% lower than the cost of foreign counterparts manufactured by Boeing and Airbus.

Flying is always romance and pleasure. And the MC-21 in this regard will become the most modern and advanced liner - an entertainment system, satellite communications system, Wi-Fi, gadget outlets and much more will be equipped on board. The manufacturer even provided special sockets for complex medical equipment. A multi-colour interior lighting system will be a nice addition to create the right mood in the cabin.

The fuselage diameter is the widest in the class - 4.06 m, which is 30 cm more than the diameter of the Boeing 737 and 11 cm more spacious than the Airbus A320.

And if you calculate how much it is per year, then the airline will receive about 175 hours of extra time in the air, which means it will earn more.

The wide fuselage provides more freedom of movement. The aisle, both in business class and in economy, is quite wide. The usual requirements for the passage width in the passenger cabin are at least 15 ”, in the cabin MC-21-300-003 - 22.5” in economy class and 31.5 ”in business class.

For example, passengers can freely move past the service trolley, and not crowd around and wait for all drinks to be spilled, distribute beef with potatoes or chicken with rice. Armchairs are comfortable, durable and lightweight - the design uses advanced materials and the latest achievements in the field of reliability and safety.

The kitchen in the MC-21 aircraft is connected to the air conditioning and ventilation system. Supply and exhaust ventilation ensures the optimum air temperature for operation and prevents the spread of steam and smell in the passenger compartment. Large kitchen space, the latest equipment, modern lighting and air conditioning create comfortable conditions for the flight attendants to work.

Kitchen racks are unified and convenient for Atlas equipment. At the choice of the airline, you can place trolleys, semi-carts, containers, electric ovens, devices for making drinks and lighting devices here.

The coffee machine and boiler are combined into one system based on a flowing water heater, which saves weight and space, without compromising service. Work tables are illuminated by built-in lights. Aluminium trolleys are lightweight, reliable and comfortable.

A wide entrance space and free passage between the seats provide more comfortable conditions for passengers with disabilities and their accompanying persons to board and disembark from the aircraft. For horizontal carrying of the stretcher, it is possible to fold the corner of the rear toilet module, and the improved microclimate in the cabin of the MС-21 aircraft has a beneficial effect on the well-being of passengers, minimising the risk of exacerbation of diseases.

The volume of the luggage and cargo compartment of the MS-21 is 12-30% more compared to existing aircraft, which allows airlines to carry more commercial cargo. In particular, the volume of the luggage and cargo compartment MS-21-300 is 48.8 cubic meters. m, the A320neo - 37.4 cubic meters, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 - 43.7. You can also use containers in the MS-21 bay, but the Boeing 737 doesn’t.

And a little more about the important - about the toilets. The installed cabins are spacious, the design of a modular type allows you to quickly change the configuration of the interior and to dismantle. All toilet modules of the aircraft are equipped with changing tables for babies, as well as comfortable for passengers with disabilities. The design eliminates hard-to-reach spots, which speeds up the cleaning process.

In the future, it is planned to produce two versions of the aircraft - MС-21-200 (from 132 to 165 seats) and MС-21-300 (from 163 to 211 seats). It is also planned to create a version of MС-21-400 (up to 260 seats). The start of mass production of the MC-21-300 is scheduled for 2021, by 2025 the Irkut Corporation plans to enter the production of 72 aircraft per year. The first operator of the aircraft will be Aeroflot airline, which ordered 50 such airliners with an option for another 35 aircraft.
