The complex with a total area of 16,760 sq.m includes: a hangar section for aircraft maintenance with a five-storey industrial annex and a two-storey annex for explosive industries, a compressor station, a fire extinguishing pumping station with tanks for a fire-fighting water supply, a transformer substation with a diesel generator set. Also on the territory of the complex there is a pre-hangar area for parking and transporting aircraft to a hangar with roads and technological platforms for the passage and manoeuvring of special equipment.
The complex is equipped with modern engineering equipment for a comprehensive check of the technical condition of the aircraft, which is performed once a month or every 500 flight hours. Much attention is paid to compliance with environmental standards during production processes: local treatment facilities for industrial effluents are installed on the territory of the complex.
Andrey Olegovich Nikulin, First Deputy General Director of Sheremetyevo International Airport for Production: «We built this hangar for the Aeroflot group of companies. The hangar was built in just 12 months. This is a record time for Russia and for aviation in general. We built the facilities that correspond to our long-term development program. And, in accordance with this development program, and with the transfer of the Rossiya airline to our airport, one of these facilities was a hangar capable of servicing Boeing 747-400 aircraft. to serve any type of aircraft operated by the Aeroflot group of companies. In general, in fact, this is another confirmation of our capabilities and the provision of our partners with the best technologies that allow us to be the most punctual airport in the world».
The airport's investments in the project amounted to $57.3 million. The operator - the company servicing Aeroflot and Rossiya aircraft in this hangar is A-Technik, which is currently leasing it. The Aeroflot Group includes Aeroflot, Russia, Pobeda, Aurora airlines and also a technical division - A-technician. Aeroflot Group currently has three hangars, and the construction of the fourth is nearing completion. At the moment, in accordance with the Group's strategic development plan, the transfer of all Rossiya Airlines flights from Moscow's Vnukovo airport to Sheremetyevo airport has been completed. With the commissioning of the new hangar, the airline's aircraft maintenance will also be transferred to the home airport.
Technical Director of Rossiya Airlines Burg Yan Borisovich: «Rossiya Airlines operates wide-bodied Boeing 747-400 aircraft (9 boards - the world's largest operator of this type of aircraft) and Boeing 777 (10 units). Now their operational maintenance is carried out in this hangar by colleagues from A- Technics. This is not just a modern and well-equipped hangar, all processes, including business processes, are established at the highest level. Cooperation with providers such as A-Technics requirements allows us to ensure a high level of flight safety, which is regularly noted by the ratings of famous We also have our own technical service center in St. Petersburg, where narrow-body Airbus aircraft are serviced, which also meets the highest flight safety standards and criteria».
The new hangar and the provider's competencies allow it to carry out any form of maintenance. However, at the moment it is used to carry out works up to the A-check level. At the same time, this hangar can accommodate up to 5 aircraft and, accordingly, this greatly simplifies the activities for the maintenance of aircraft restoration, to ensure their airworthiness on the routes. On the day of the presentation, a Boeing 747-400 aircraft of Rossiya Airlines and two Superjets 100 of Aeroflot Airlines were in the hangar at the A-check.
General Director of A-Technik Mikhail Yuryevich Korobovich: «We are in one of the most modern hangar complex in the Moscow aviation hub, I think in Russia. Since April A-Technics has come here as the main operator for the operation of this hangar and developed it into At the moment we carry out in this hangar mainly A-checks. Finding a wide-body aircraft in the hangar takes from 3 to 5 days. This allows us to fully provide service to the entire wide-body fleet, both airlines Rossiya and Aeroflot. Along with the wide-body aircraft, it is possible to supply 4 more Seperjet 100 aircraft here, and if we remove the wide fuselage, then 5 aircraft, such as the A320, and at the same time perform various types of maintenance».
A-Technics is a young company that will celebrate its 5th anniversary on December 7 this year. It was created to meet the needs of Aeroflot Group in technical services. Today it is the only company in Russia that has a C-check rating on wide-body aircraft of the B777 and B747 families. And, of course, the same ratings for all narrow-body aircraft of the A320 and B737 families. Plus, periodic forms on the Superjet 100. Thus, the company has enough competencies to meet all the needs of the Group.
As we have already mentioned, the process of putting the hangar into operation was synchronised with the transfer of Rossiya Airlines to Sheremetyevo. The hangar was completed in January 2020. In March, a commissioning certificate was received from the Federal Air Transport Agency. However, then the COVID-19 pandemic intervened in the process. Because of which, the possibility of obtaining European certification and the risk of desynchronization with the airline's plans were threatened.
