The bird strike tests of the new Russian MS-21 airliner have been carried out at the Central Institute of Aviation Motors (CIAM) named after P.I. Baranov, Gazeta.ru reports. The jet was tested using a pneumatic cannon.
«The aircraft was fixed and a bird’s carcass with a weight of 1,8 kg was launched using a pneumatic cannon with a speed equal to the aircraft’s flight speed,» the institute’s press-service explained.
The tests have been successfully completed. According to experts, the liner’s fin will be certified. MS-21 is the key project of the Russia’s civil aircraft industry.
