The famous singer Sarah Brightman to start training for spaceflight to the International Space Station (ISS) in August or September 2014, RIA Novosti reports with reference to Director of Research and Test Cosmonaut Training Center named after Y.A. Gagarin, Yuri Lonchakov.
"Sarah Brightman will start training as a candidate for a short-term flight to the ISS as a member of international crew at the Research and Test Cosmonaut Training Center named after Y.A. Gagarin in August or September. Her flight to the ISS is scheduled for September 2015", - he said.
The singer has performed in Russia before. She visited Moscow for the first time in 1985 – she performed Requiem written by her ex-husband Andrew Lloyd Webber. In 1986 she got nomination for Grammy Award in Best New Classical Artist category for performing Requiem.
Sarah Brightman is one of the world’s leading classical crossover singers. She is the renowned soprano, who starred in Cats and Phantom Of The Opera, where she played Christine and got nomination for Drama Desk Award in Outstanding Actress category. During her successful career she performed with Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Antonio Banderas, Jose Cura, Alessandro Safina, Tom Jones, Sergey Penkin, etc. She recorded over 10 solo albums.
At present ISS is the only place used for the purposes of space tourism. The flights are performed using Russian Soyuz spacecraft; the tourists are delivered to the Russian segment of the ISS.
