The first launch of Angara-1.2 PP launch vehicle (LV) from Plesetsk cosmodrome is scheduled for late June, press-service of Russian Ministry of Defense reports with reference to the Minister of Defense, General Sergey Shoygu.
«You know that 1.5 years ago the program was six month behind schedule. The construction of the launch vehicle was constantly being monitored by the Ministry of Defense. A special video surveillance system has been installed at the cosmodrome in order to monitor the work progress in the real-time mode. It was a top-priority item on the agenda of every conference call with the participation of leaders of the Russian armed forces», — the General noted.
«Thanks to intense work of departments of the Ministry of Defense, Spetsstroy of Russia (stands for Federal Special Construction Agency of Russia), Command of the Aerospace Defense Forces and Plesetsk Cosmodrome we have managed to get back on schedule, although we had to make some hard personnel decisions. At present the project for development of Angara launch vehicle is being implemented in accordance with the schedule approved by the president of Russia», — the minister added.
The development of Angara launch vehicle is being carried out at Plesetsk cosmodrome in accordance with the “Schedule for completion of construction of ground facilities, preparation for the first launch and launching the light Angara-1.2 PP and heavy Angara-5 LVs» taking into account the decisions made in the area of testing of the launch site’s ground equipment.
So far the integrated tests of technical equipment of the launch vehicle and its payload assembly have been completed. The integrated tests of the multi-purpose launch site will be completed soon. It is being prepared for the launch of Angara-1.2 PP LV. The coupling of the 1st and 2nd stages of Angara-1.2 PP rocket has been carried out at the launch site. The electric testing of the rocket’s systems is in progress. The decision on starting the flight testing and carrying out the first launch of the light Angara-1.2 LV will be taken at the meeting of a State Commission to be held during June 15th – 20th period, the Ministry of Defense added.
