EU sanctions against Russia connected with the situation in Ukraine have not affected the deliveries of French-produced Mistral helicopter carriers yet, RIA Novosti reports with reference to France’s Ambassador to UN, Gerard Araud.
"At present the deliveries are not affected by the sanctions", — he said. According to the source, the sanctions have been imposed against certain people. "Of course we will have to keep up with any new sanctions, but for now the deliveries are not affected", — Araud confirmed.
In 2011 Russia and France signed a contract worth €1.2 billion for delivery of two Mistral helicopter carriers to Russian navy. The ships are being constructed at STX’s shipyard in St.Nazaire (France). The first “Vladivostok” ship has already been floated out and its delivery to Russian navy is scheduled for late 2014. The second one – “Sevastopol” ship will be delivered to the customer in 2015.
Mistral-type helicopter carrier has a displacement of 21 thousand tons. Its length is 210 meters, speed – 18 knots, operational range -–20 thousand miles. The ship’s crew comprises 170 people; 450 more people may be accommodated onboard the vessel if necessary. The ship’s air group includes 16 helicopters (six of them may be deployed at the vessel’s deck simultaneously).
