The Honored General Designer of Mikoyan Design Bureau, Rostislav Belyakov, died on February 28th 2014 following a serious illness, Lenta.ru reports.
He was 94 years old. The whole Rostislav Belyakov’s career was connected with development of MiG aircraft. He joined the special design department headed by Chief Designer Mikoyan in 1941. He was appointed General Designer of the bureau in 1969. In 1997 he was appointed the counselor of the General Designer.
MiG-29 front-line fighter, MiG-31 fighter-interceptor, MiG-27 bomber-fighter, different modifications of MiG-21, MiG-23 and MiG-25 jets, and a number of advanced aircraft, including the prototype of a fifth-generation fighter, were developed under the leadership of Rostislav Belyakov.
Aviation EХplorer reported with reference to the press-service of Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (RAC MiG), that the memorial service was held at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation (Marshal Timoshenko street, 25) on March 4th 2014 at 11:00.
