Chinese private company O-bay Aircraft Company headquartered in Henan, plans to sign the contract with Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) for delivery of 100 Sukhoi SuperJet 100 aircraft worth $3.54 billion, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to China Daily, adding that the memorandum was signed last Saturday.
It is also said in the statement that the Russian company will help its Chinese partner to establish an assembly line in Zhengzhou (administrative center of Henan). A number of other Chinese companies have shown interest in the project.
The source added that Sukhoi Company is well-known in China thanks to its military aircraft. The production of civil Sukhoi aircraft in China should be launched in 2016; the facility will reach the planned output in 2018.
The project is yet to be approved by the China’s State Council. Moreover, the Russian aircraft will become a rival for regional ARJ-21 aircraft, developed by a Chinese aircraft corporation.
SCAC confirmed the information about signing the memorandum. However, the company did not unveil the name of its Chinese partner saying that SCAC is interested in cooperation with the Chinese party at large. The refinement of cooperation conditions is underway.
