The flight testing of upgraded heavy Mi-26T2 helicopter manufactured by Rostvertol (part of Russian Helicopters Holding Company) will be completed in 2014, Voenno-promishlenniy Courier reports with reference to a source close to the Russian military-industrial sector.
«The preliminary and state flight testing of Mi-26T2 will be completed in 2014 in two stages», - the source noted. He added that the preliminary testing of the upgraded rotorcraft will be started in March or April 2014.
«This stage will be completed in 1,5-2 months», - the source said. Following the results of preliminary testing the helicopter will be modified prior to the start of state testing.
«The state testing of Mi-26T2 will be completed in late summer or early autumn», - he added.
The key differences between Mi-26T2 and Mi-26TS are: reduction of crew size to two members, new avionics and five LCDs. The helicopter is fitted with an integrated flight/navigation system; the system’s information will be displayed on a special display.
The rotorcraft is powered by two D-136 engines (11240 h.p.) manufactured by Motor Sich (Ukraine).
