Venezuela takes delivery of Pechora-2M air defense systems

Russia delivered another batch of S-125 Pechora-2M air defense systems to Venezuela. It was stated by the head of Operational Strategic Command, General Vladimir Padrino Lopez, Lenta.ru reports with reference to Infodefensa.

The acceptance of the new equipment was carried out by the specialists of Aerospace Defense Command Structure of Venezuela. Pechora-2M air defense systems have been delivered to the country by Ocean Pride ship on January 29th 2014.

The Ministry of Defense of Venezuela purchased 11 divisions of Pechora-2M systems in September 2009. The first batch of the air defense systems was delivered to the customer in mid-2011. According to Infodefensa, at present four brigades of Aerospace Defense Command Structure are operating S-125 systems. Two divisions of S-300VM systems were delivered to Venezuela in April 2013.

The value of the contract for delivery of Russian weapons to Venezuela signed in 2009 is $11 billion ($4 billion have been provided to Caracas as an export credit). In general Venezuela ordered T-72B1V tanks, multiple rocket launched systems «Smerch», Bal-E coastal missile systems, Mashina-M fire control systems, self-propelled guns «Msta-S» and man-portable air defense systems.
