Irkut Corporation will deliver 21 Su-30SM fighters to the Russian Ministry of Defense in 2014, Lenta.ru reports with reference to the corporation’s president, Oleg Demchenko. According to him, 16 jets of the type have already been delivered to the customer. We remind you that Russian Ministry of Defense placed orders for 65 Su-30SM fighters.
It was reported in mid-January 2014 that Russian Ministry of Defense plans to sign a contract for delivery of 50 Su-30SM fighters soon. These vehicles will be operated by the aviation of Russian navy; the first jets will be delivered to the customer by the end of 2015. The total value of the contract for delivery of 50 Su-30SM fighters and 10 Yak-130 operational trainers will exceed $2 billion.
The ministry already signed three contracts for delivery of 65 Su-30SM fighters: two of them were signed in 2012 and the third one – in late 2013. In the network of one of the contracts the deliveries of Su-30SM jets will be completed by 2016.
Su-30SM is the modification of Su-30MK developed for Russian armed forces. The jet’s maximum flight speed is 2.100 km/h; its range is 3000 km. Su-30SM is able to carry a payload of 8 tons.
