Russia will provide Serbia with an export credit for purchasing MiG-29M2 fighters

Russia will provide Serbia with an export credit for purchasing weapons and military equipment, including six MiG-29M2 fighters,Lenta.ru with reference to Jane's.

The preliminary negotiations on delivery of the fighters took place during meeting of Serbian Minister of Defense, Alexander Vucic, with Russian Minister of Defense, Sergey Shoygu, held in Moscow on May 23rd – 24th 2013. According to Lenta.ru, Serbian Ministry of Defense intends to place a large order for Russian weapons and equipment; however, the details of potential contract are unknown.

The details of the potential contract may be unveiled in late May after the visit of Sergey Shoygu to Belgrade. According to a source close to the Serbian Ministry of Defense, MiG-29M2 fighters may be delivered to the customer soon after signing of the contract and it’s a great advantage.

Serbian air forces have been considering the possibility of purchasing fighters in France or Pakistan over the last two years.

It was reported in late April that Serbia intends to purchase six MiG-29M2 fighters. Moreover, Serbia intends to purchase two ground-based radars. Serbian Ministry of Defense plans to sign the corresponding contract in 2013.
