Russia and Peru will sign a contract for overhaul of MiG-29 aircraft in May, RIA Novosti reports. It was stated by the Deputy Director of Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC), Konstantin Biryulin, after the closing of SITDEF exhibition held in Lima.
Belarus sold 20 MiG-29 fighters to Peru in 1997. "The contract for overhaul of these MiG-29 fighters should be signed in May", — Biryulin said.
He also noted that the second meeting of the intergovernmental commission for military-technical cooperation will take place in September - October. The possibility of carrying out training of the Peruvian personnel in Russia will be considered during the meeting. "We are entering a brand-new level of cooperation allowing us to form mutually-beneficial relations in the area of military-technical cooperation", — Biryulin noted.
The agreement on military-technical cooperation between Russia and Peru was signed in 2006 and the first meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held in 2012.
