Peru will purchase 24 Mi-171 helicopters intended for antiterrorist protection and drug control. The contract is assessed at $406 million, Business-TASS reports with reference to Peruvian mass media.

As reported by the Peru’s largest news website Radio Programas Del Peru, the joint command of Peruvian armed forces and army air forces support the purchase of Russian-produced helicopters. These recommendations are based on positive experience of operating Mi-171s purchased in 2010.

The Peruvian army has gained vast experience in operating Russian and Soviet vehicles and weapons, which have been delivered to the country since 1970s.

As reported by Republica, the helicopters may be delivered to Peru in 2014-2015. At that, the Peruvian army plans to take delivery of 21 Mi-171 helicopters next year.
