Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft contract for launching the production of An-140-100 and An-158 jets in Kazakhstan, Kommersant-Ukraine reports.
Last week the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers and the government of Kazakhstan approved the draft cooperation agreement for launching the serial production of An-140-100 and An-158 aircraft. Now Ukraine is waiting for Kazakh party to sign the document.
Ukraine and Kazakhstan should start the preparation for launching the serial production of the jets in 2014, General Designer of Antonov State Enterprise, Dmitry Keeva, said. "Kazakhstan agreed to purchase the jets provided that the vehicles will be produced in Kazakhstan. A number of private companies are also interested in purchasing jets of these types. We believe that the market capacity for these aircraft is about 100 jets", — Keeva said. Cooperation between Ukraine and Kazakhstan also assumes establishment of MRO facilities for Antonov jets.
Ukraine and Kazakhstan came to an agreement on serial production of An-140-100 in 2011; the corresponding agreement was signed by Antonov and AeroKZ (Kazakh aircraft company established for implementation of this joint project). The project assumed the construction of an aircraft plant located in Kapchagai (Almaty Region). The investments in this project were assessed at $150 million. However the start of this project has been delayed because the corresponding agreements between the countries have not been signed, Dmitry Keeva noted. "We will be able to start working without any limitations after the contract is signed by both countries. In the near term Antonov will hand a part of working design documentation for the jets to the Kazakh party", — he said.
According to kapital.kz portal, the parties have already signed a license agreement for delivery of components and spare parts. The document also allows Kazakhstan to deliver aircraft manufactured by its national enterprises to China and Central Asia.
