The first composite “black” wing for MS-21 and Sukhoi SuperJet NG aircraft will be manufactured in Russia in the second half of 2014, Prime reports with reference to the Minister of Industry and Trade of Russian Federation, Denis Manturov.
"A unique non-autoclave infusion technology will be used for manufacturing the wing. This technology has never been used before in the network of global aircraft industry", - Manturov noted.
"The technology allows manufacturing the wing as an integral component. Thanks to usage of industrial robots and lasers the production of the wing elements becomes cheaper and takes less time as compared to traditional autoclave technology", - he noted. He also added that the amount of investments in construction of the plant is about 5 billion rubles. Although world’s leading enterprises have already been manufacturing composite wings for quite some time (using other technologies) such components have never been manufactured in Russia before.
The design of the “black wing” will be used for both MS-21 and Sukhoi SuperJet NG aircraft (serial production of MS-21 will be launched in 2017 and the production of SSJ NG will be launched later). The financing of SSJ NG project will be started in 2017, Manturov reminded.
Composite or “black” wing grants significant reduction of the airframe’s weight and improves the aircraft’s aerodynamics. The composite wing coupled with other advanced technologies may deliver up to 40% fuel savings.
