Western Military District will acquire 16 advanced radar stations in 2013

The units of radio-technical troops of the Western Military District (WMD) will acquire 16 advanced radar stations in 2013, press-service of the Russian Ministry of Defense reports.

These are: «Kasta-2E2» radar station intended for detecting aircraft and cruising missiles at low altitudes, «Nebo-M» and «Nebo-U» — for tracing targets at medium and long range, «Sopka» — for controlling the targets at low and extremely low altitudes, «Oborona» — for long-range warning.

In addition, many radar stations already operated by WMD will be upgraded this year.

The units of radio-technical troops of WMD are being refitted in the network of State arms program for 2011-2020.

It is planned to deliver over 50 advanced radar stations with different range to the units of WMD by 2020. The radar stations are intended for information support of engagement of air defense missiles and the operation of the latest aircraft.
