Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) took delivery of two Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft manufactured in 2012. The first jet was delivered to the carrier on January 11th 2013, the airline’s press-service reports.
The aircraft has undergone the official registration process in Ukraine and received UR-PSE tail number. The second aircraft (tail number UR-PSF) joins UIA`s fleet on January 14th 2013. Thus, the carrier's fleet will comprise 21 medium-haul Boeing 737 aircraft by late January.
“The carrier acquires new aircraft under conditions of operational leasing for a period of 12 years. The corresponding contract was signed by the carrier and a European leasing company. These jets have been operated by Aerosvit Airlines before. Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft have two-class cabin configuration seating 180 passengers. These aircraft are also fitted with Boeing Sky Interior cabin likewise the new generation Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft”, - the airline explained.
“UIA`s Boeing 737-800 aircraft are equipped with advanced navigation equipment and powered by CFM56-7B24E engines. The engines have a high reliability and reduced fuel consumption, which allow improving the aircraft’s efficiency, reducing emissions, and facilitating aircraft maintenance. According to the UIA experts` estimation, Boeing 737-800 aircraft’s fuel savings per passenger seat is 14% as compared to Boeing 737-400 aircraft, 25% - as compared to Boeing 737-300 aircraft, and 34% - as compared to Boeing 737-500 aircraft”, - the carrier’s press-service noted.
Both aircraft are equipped with special winglets providing improved aerodynamics, lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. Two more Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft should be delivered to the carrier in the network of its fleet renewal and expansion program in April – May 2013. Thus, the carrier’s fleet will comprise 8 Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft by summer, the carrier noted.
“By summer one third of UIA’s fleet will be formed by Boeing 737 New Generation aircraft providing high level of operating efficiency, cost effectiveness, and passenger comfort. This will definitely help our company implement its strategic plans, – Eugeniy Treskunov, UIA Executive Vice President Strategy and Development, said. – Implementation of the UIA fleet expansion and renewal program will help UIA significantly expand its route network, including a new routes to the cities of Eastern and Southern Europe, Scandinavia, Russia and other CIS countries, the Caucasus and Central Asia”.
