Major maneuvers of Army aviation corps of Western military district are taking place in Leningrad and Pskov Region. The crews will be performing solo and formation flights (up to 10 vehicles simultaneously), press-service of Western military district reports. AEX.ru
"3 airfields, over 30 helicopters and about 70 ground vehicles are involved in the maneuvers. The crews of Mi-24 and Mi-8 helicopters will be practicing in air ordnance delivery with annihilation of ground targets at the distance from 500 meters to 5 kilometers from minimum and medium altitudes at Kingisepp shooting ground (Leningrad Region) for a week. While performing tasks from the unfamiliar airfield the pilots will fire about 500 guided and unguided missiles in a few days", - Western military district noted.
The crews of the combat helicopters will also accomplish missions connected with air mining of a sector of terrain, airlift delivery of air assault forces and surveillance units, while the crews of Mi-24s will practice in protection of assault landing.
The maneuvers are being carried out under command of the Commander-in-Chief of the Western Military District, Major General, Igor Makushev.
