Irkut Corporation, forming part of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), and Aviacapital-Service leasing company (on behalf of Russian Technologies) have signed the contract on delivery of 35 MS-21 aircraft, press-service of Irkut Corporation reports. AEX.ru

The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov, and president of UAC, Mikhail Pogosyan. The contract was signed by CEO of Aviacapital-Service (on the part of the customer), Roman Pakhomov, and by President of Irkut Corporation, Alexey Fedorov (on behalf of contractor).

"In accordance with the contract, Irkut Corporation will deliver 35 MS-21 aircraft (including 18 MS-21-200s and 17 MS-21-300s) to Aviacapital-Service during a period from 2022 to 2025. The amount of the contract at list prices is $2.32 billion. The contract assumes that the jets will be equipped with PD-14 engines developed by United Engine Corporation", - Irkut noted.

It is expected that the jets will mostly be operated by the state customers.

We remind you that the first contract between Aviacapital-Service and Irkut Corporation on delivery of 50 MS-21 aircraft (firm order) with an option for another 35 vehicles was signed on August 17th 2011 during MAKS-2011 international airshow in the presence of President of Russia (ex-Chairman of the Government) Vladimir Putin.

MS-21 program assumes development of new family of short- and medium-haul passenger aircraft intended for Russian and global market. MS-21-300 and MS-21-200 aircraft allow transportation of 181 and 150 passengers respectively (single-class cabin configuration).

The program’s main contractor is Irkut Corporation. The development of this aircraft family is assumed by Federal Target Program “Development of civil aircraft in Russia”.

MS-21 aircraft family is developed in cooperation with the leading Russian and foreign companies. The enterprises forming part of Russian Technologies State Corporation are manufacturing some components for MS-21 aircraft, including PD-14 engine. MS-21 will leave behind the currently operated jets by technical level. High aerodynamic cleanness of the jet’s airframe, vast usage of composites, next-generation engines and more innovative technical solutions will provide high level of aircraft performance and operating characteristics of MS-21 aircraft. The increased diameter of the airframe, advanced designer solutions, state-of-the-art cabin environment maintenance system and lighting will provide passengers with the highest level of comfort.

The concept of the aircraft family is based upon flexibility, which enables successful operation of these jets by traditional, low-cost, charter and hybrid carriers.

The deliveries of first MS-21s are scheduled for 2017.
