The Secretary General of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Raymond Benjamin, and the Chairman of Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), Tatyana Anodina, have signed the broad cooperation agreement complementing the existing Memorandum of Understanding (signed in 2001) between ICAO and IAC, IAC’s press-service reports. «The results of cooperation between ICAO and IAC during the 2001-2011 period have been finalized during visit of IAC’s Chairman to the headquarters of ICAO in Montreal (April 2011) and the visit of ICAO’s Secretary General to the IAC’s headquarters in Moscow (November 2011). The parties have agreed that experience gained and results, achieved in the network of MoU and implementation of ICAO-IAC regional project in the area of flight safety, allow entering the new level of cooperation and expanding application of the MoU», - IAC said.

It was noted that IAC, being the international regional organization, has implemented the efficient and balanced cooperation mechanism in the area of civil aviation and aircraft industry. It became the equal partner and effective mechanism for integration of region’s states into the European and Global safety system. It was underlined that IAC relies on ICAO standards in all the aspects of its activities, including independent investigation of flight accidents, certification of aircraft types or categorized airfields, implementation of CNS/ATM programs, the committee noted.

«The signed document widens the cooperation between ICAO and IAC, provides new capabilities for solving the flight safety problems, implementation of  projects on provision of technical support for the states in the region, development of international and regional cooperation, strengthening of global flight safety, implementation of ICAO strategy in the area of personnel training, further implementation of ICAO standards in all the areas of aviation activities and wider usage of IAC’s professional and technical resources by ICAO», - said in the statement of IAC’s press-service.

The specified lines of cooperation correspond to the programs, approved by the governments of countries in the region, strategic priorities approved by the 37th ICAO Assembly and decisions of ICAO Council regarding implementation of General program for provision of flight safety along with principles of partnership with the regional organizations.

«Implementation of the document signed by the Secretary General of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Chairman of Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) will allow further strengthening of cooperation between IAC and ICAO on behalf of international civil aviation», - the committee said.
