The total operating time of the main engines of Russian civil aviation – PS-90A, manufactured by Perm Engine Company (PEC) has reached 3 million hours in April 2012, PEC’s press-service reports. AEX.ru

"Such a high result was some kind of a gift timed to the 20th anniversary of the engine’s certification in April 1992. At present this engine is operated on 82 aircraft in 11 Russian and 5 foreign airlines. PS-90A engine was being constantly improved and it resulted in the increase of its reliability and service life. The operating time of the leader PS-90A engine has reached 38.000 hours", - the company noted.

The modified PS-90A-76 engine has reached another important milestone in early April 2012. The engine’s time between overhauls reached 9000 hours (the engine has been installed on Il-76TD-90 aircraft owned by «Silk Way Airlines»). The operation of the leader engine continues, its operating time has reached 9017 hours as of April 12th. PS-90A-76 has been certified in 2003 and it is being manufactured by the PEC since 2004. It is the main engine for the new Il-476 transport aircraft intended for Russian civil and military aviation. The aircraft should perform its maiden flight in June 2012, PEC noted.

Alexey Mikhalev, managing director of PEC, said: "PS-90A is the main product of our enterprise; its core is used as the basis for several modifications of aviation engines and gas-turbine powerplants used by oil and gas companies. We are paying a very close attention to the expansion of its production and development of its manufacturing process. The implementation of the state contract on delivery of over 500 PS-90A-76 engines in 2012-2020 in accordance with the United Aircraft Corporation’s order is the top-priority objective for us. It will help provide workload for the PEC’s capacities and carry out technical re-equipping of the enterprise in light of assimilation of serial production of fifth-generation PD-14 engine".
