AirBridgeCargo, the Russia’s largest cargo carrier, has performed its first cross-polar flight from Chicago to Krasnoyarsk, the airline’s press-service reports. AEX.ru

The cargo Boeing 747-400 has been transporting unusual passengers - 175 Aberdeen Angus cows. Their total weight was 104 tons. The animals have been successfully delivered to the Krasnoyarsk Emelyanovo airport today and then they were transferred to a local breed livestock farm.

The flights through North Pole differ from the standard ones and require the crew with great skills and vast experience. The cross-polar flights are difficult because of errors of satellite navigation systems, high level of radiation and interruptions of radio communication. For all these reasons AirBridgeCargo has selected one of its most experienced pilots – Oleg Trotsenko, which has been taking part in the testing of cross-polar routes since 1997. «The opening and development of new cross-polar route is a tremendous task. We have formed the team of experienced pilots for solving the problem», – Oleg Trotsenko noted.

AirBridgeCargo sees the advantages of cross-polar flights for development of our country’s transit potential. Such route allows saving of time and fuel. We hope that cross-polar transportation will become popular among our customers», – said the Executive president of AirBridgeCargo, Tatyana Arslanova.
