Six MiG-31BM interceptors took up the duty in the Central Military District

The Central Military District (CMD) took the delivery of six MiG-31BM interceptors; the jets have taken up the duty in Krasnoyarsk Territory, RIA Novosti reports.

"Six upgraded MiG-31BM interceptors have been put into service by the 2nd command of the air forces and air defense of theCentral Military District. After the upgrade performed by the manufacturer the jets have taken up duty at Kansk base", — a representative of CMD noted.

He reminded that MiG-31BМ is equipped with new armament control system increasing the jet’s target acquisition and target engagement range to 320 and 280 km respectively. "At that MiG-31BM is capable of tracking up to 10 targets and hitting 6 of them simultaneously", — the representative noted.

According to him, the military district’s aviation has acquired a total of 10 such jets in 2012.

The representative of Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD), Colonel Vladimir Drik, stated earlier that over 60 MiG-31s will be upgraded in the network of a state program intended for re-equipping the army. The contract on upgrading and repairing of the interceptors was signed by the MoD and United Aircraft Corporation in 2011.
