SaM146 1S18 engine has been certified by EASA

PowerJet has acquired the EASA type certificate for SaM146 1S18 engine intended for Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional jet on January 17th 2012, the company’s press-service reports. AEX.ru

"The acquisition of type certificate for SaM146 1S18 engine is another important milestone for PowerJet,” – said Jacques Desclaux, CEO of PowerJet. - “This version of the engine significantly increases range of Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100).” 

One of the main features of SaM146 1S18 engine is takeoff thrust (16,100 pounds), allowing operation of Sukhoi Superjet 100/95 with and extended range and maximum takeoff weight (MTOW). It is increasing the aircraft’s range to 4,578 km (2,470 nm) with full payload. The engine uses the same hardware components as the other engines of the family, thus no changes in airframe’s configuration are required, the company noted.

Sukhoi Superjet 100 equipped by SaM146 engines has confirmed its claimed performance during commercial operation, which has been started in April 2011. As of December 31st 2011, SaM146 engines had more than 6500 of flight time and it has visited more than 40 destinations all over the world. SaM146 engine has a technical readiness coefficient of more than 99%.

At present the order backlog includes 168 Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft.

PowerJet takes part in sales of SSJ100 and marketing initiatives along with the manufacturer of these jets – Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCA), and SuperJet International (Sukhoi/Alenia Aeronautica joint venture).

We remind you that EASA and Russian certification agency AR IAC have issued the type certificate for SaM146 1S17 on June 23rd 2010, thus certifying the SaM146 engine for operation as part of the regional jets.

PowerJet is the subsidiary of Snecma (Safran Group, France) and NPO Saturn (Russia) with equal shares. It is responsible for SaM146 powerplant, including development, manufacturing, marketing, sales and support. The thrust of SaM146 engine is 15400 - 17800 pounds. The engine meets the requirements for advanced regional jets in the area of dimensions. The first application for SaM146 is the new Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional aircraft.
