Russia will deliver the modernized Vikramaditya (ex-“Admiral Gorshkov”) aircraft carrier to India on December 4th 2012. The ship’s sea trials will be started in May, Kommersant reports.
The ship has been moved from the filled pool to the quayside of Sevmash in 2008 for loading of new equipment using vigorous cranes. «The ship will be delivered to the customer on December 4th 2012, when the anniversary of Indian navy is celebrated»,— said Deputy Director General on military-technical cooperation of the enterprise, Sergey Novoselov, on January 17th. «The ship’s first sortie is scheduled at the end of May after the spring ice drift»,— he added. According to Novoselov, it is necessary to accommodate the crew at the ship in late February, thus the personnel will have time to get used to the ship.
The agreement on modernization of the aircraft carrier is one of the major ones in the history of military-technical cooperation between India and Russia.
