    Russia has intercepted a Polish intruder aircraft

    A second phase of antiterrorist maneuvers with participation of Russia and NATO has been started today, According to the National Anti-Terrorist Committee, this phase includes real flights.

    Information regarding aircraft seizure has been transmitted to coordinating center on June 7th after the Polish civil aircraft’s separation from contact. The aircraft has lifted-off from Krakow’s airport. After deviation from the flight operations plan and loss of connection with the aircraft’s crew two Polish F-16s have intercepted the aircraft and transferred it to the Russian Su-27 fighters, lifted-off from Chkalovsk airfield. Following the results of “captured” aircraft crew’s qualified actions, the terrorists have been neutralized but the navigational equipment has been damaged. «Intruder aircraft» has needed help of Russian fighters in order to return to the Poland’s airspace. The aircraft has landed in Malbork (Poland) at 14-29 Moscow time. ВТС CASA С-295 has been used as an intruder aircraft.

    We remind you that the “Watchful sky” maneuvers are being carried out in several phases with consecutive participation of NATO member countries: Poland, Turkey and Norway, from June 6th till June 10th at the airspace of different regions.

    The command of all tie-down forces at all phases is carried out in Moscow from Coordinating center of air picture information acquisition system and cooperation with NATO coordinating center State ATM Corporation of Federal Agency of Air Transport, and on the part of NATO – from the similar Coordinating center in Warsaw.

    The first phase of the maneuvers has started on June 6th. The readiness of information acquisition system and communications has been checked and the other preliminaries have been performed. Also the simulated maneuvers have been performed in central (between Russia and Poland) and southern (between Russia and Turkey) ASTP areas without aviation flights using the same scenarios as for the other days of maneuvers.

    The third and fourth phases will take place on June 8th and 9th respectively. The command facilities and subunits of Russian air forces and naval forces, the Federal security Service of the Russian Federation, Federal Agency of Air Transport and operation headquarters in Krasnodar, Rostov, Kaliningrad and Murmansk region are taking part in the maneuvers on the part of Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russian Federation coordinates interaction with the foreign partners.
