Russian Ministry of Defense has ordered seven An-140 light transport turboprops, Izvestiya reports. It has been reported earlier by the chairman of Motor Sich’s Board of Directors, Vyacheslav Boguslayev.

Boguslaev has stated that the company has decided not to construct military transport version of Il-112 turboprop. Russian Ministry of Defense has ordered seven An-140s instead.

He has also noted that it is planned to create a cargo version of An-140 intended for carrying of 6-7 tons of cargo. An-140 is a joint project of Russia and Ukraine.

It has been reported earlier that Samara-based Aviakor facility has signed a contract with Russian Ministry of Defense on construction of An-140-100 transport turboprops. According to the enterprise’s information, the regional passenger An-140-100 aircraft having 52 passenger seats has been included in government’s defense order and it will be used for provision of military department’s special missions.

An-140 has been created to replace an outdated An-24s and Аn-26s, part of which is operated by the military department.
