According to Lenta.ru, the prototype of Russian fifth-generation fighter T-50 has broken the sound barrier during flight testing.

The first prototype of T-50 has been performing flights since January 2010; the second one has joined the flight testing at the beginning of March 2011. According to schedule, the frame tests of PAK FA will be completed in 2011-2012. Russian Ministry of Defense will acquire a pilot batch of ten pre-production vehicles in 2013 for carrying out operational use testing. The fighters will be deployed at Lipetsk Air base. The serial acquisition of T-50 will be started in 2015.

Ministry of Defense plans to acquire 60 jets except for 10 jets from the pilot batch. Acquisition of these jets will be carried out in the network of State program in the area of arms with an amount of financing of 19 trillion roubles. According to the assessments, Russian air forces need 150 PAK FA, but the exact purchase amounts are unknown.

Technical features of T-50 are restricted. The official source has reported earlier that the jet will have highly intellectual board equipment, it will be capable of performing takeoff and landing using short runways (300 - 400 meters) and attaining a combat task in any weather and lighting conditions. In addition the Russian fighter will be ultra-maneuverable and will be capable of cruising at supersonic speed.
