"Sukhoi" handed four new fighters Su-27SM to the Russian air forces in the middle of February 2011.
The planes carried out the flight from Komsomolsk-on-Amur to the airbase located in Krimsk in Krasnodar territory. Shipping of Su-27SM was fulfilled as part of the contract regarding transfer of 12 such fighters into the ownership of Russian air forces. The respective agreement was signed between "Sukhoi" and Ministry of Defense of Russian Federation in August 2009.
Russian air forces had received modernized Su-27SM combat fighters before. Four fighters that were handed over to the Russian air forces have never been in service, these fighters are made by Joint Stock Company "Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association" (KNAAPO). Su-27SMs are equipped with the new engines AL-31F-M1, modernized equipment and weapon systems.
Exact version of the new fighter is yet unknown. It was reported that the first modernized fighter Su-27SM3 has entered the state testing in the autumn of 2010. As like as not that four fighters that were handed over to the Russian air forces also belong to the new version SM3. At the present time KNAAPO prepares to submit another eight fighters Su-27SM, which may be passed into service at the end of 2011, to the customer.
It has been reported before that Russian air forces received some new fighters, strike-fighters and helicopters in 2010. In particular, the Russian air forces were supplied with four squadrons of Su-27SM, strike-fighters Su 25SM, helicopters Mi-24PM and "Ansat-U". The deputy of Commander-In-Chief of Russian air forces lieutenant general Igor Sadofyev declared at the end of 2010 that air force will have received about 2000 planes and helicopters by 2020 and only 400 of them will be the modernized ones.
"According to the government's defense order on 2011 in the short term it is planned to purchase and ship to the air forces the following planes: Su-27SM, Su-30M2, Su-34, Su-35S, Yak-130. The shipping of helicopters Ka-52, Mi-28N, Mi-8AMTSh, Ka-226 and "Ansat-U" for army air force is planned on 2011", - said Mr. Sadofyev.
